October 2025: Abidjan PK24 Sanitation Project, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Networks & Pumping Stations

14 November 2025 admin

The company SCHIBA HYDRO has been granted a mandate from Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and the Ministry of Sanitation (MINHAS) to construct, under an EPC+F contract, the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for PK24 and its collection network. This strategic project is one of the seven WWTPs planned in the Greater Abidjan Sanitation and Drainage Master Plan (SDAD, 2018) and aims to sustainably resolve the wastewater problem in the rapidly expanding industrial and urban PK24 area. SCHIBA HYDRO has chosen CONCEPT for the project management of this ambitious sanitation project.

The project covers a vast area including the PK24 industrial zone, the neighboring towns of Gounioubé, Attinguié, and Akoupé, as well as the numerous housing developments currently underway that extend from it. The project's main objective is to establish a complete and modern infrastructure for the collection, transfer, and treatment of wastewater for a population estimated at 60,000 inhabitants in 2021 and 150,000 inhabitants after twenty years.

The major components of the PK24 Sanitation Project as planned in the 2018 SDAD are:

  1. Construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP): A high-performance treatment unit to ensure the purification of wastewater before its discharge, guaranteeing environmental protection, with a capacity of 5,300 m³/day and serving 60,000 population equivalents.
  2. Deployment of Collection Networks: Implementation of a complete network of primary, secondary and tertiary wastewater networks with a total length of 170 km to capture and transport effluents from the entire service area.
  3. Installation of Pumping Stations: Nine pumping stations will be built to ensure the efficient transfer of wastewater.

According to the SDAD, these facilities will specifically serve the PK24 area and the three localities of Attinguié, Akoupé (north of the STEP), and Gounioubé (south of the STEP).

Currently, given the ongoing and planned urban expansion in numerous new housing developments, the wastewater treatment plant's capacity will likely need to at least double, and the network will see the addition of approximately fifteen pumping stations. CONCEPT is currently providing its client and the Ivorian authorities with the necessary information for decision-making that takes into account the new post-SDAD context.
