Drinking water supply and water resources management

The project aims to sustainably improve the living conditions of the populations of five regions in southern Mauritania, by significantly contributing to the achievement of the MDGs in terms of access to drinking water and basic sanitation services
The sustainable improvement of access to drinking water and sanitation in the project's target regions will be achieved by meeting three specific objectives (SO):
SO1:Improving access to drinking water in 81 localities (i) by making a new water supply infrastructure in 51 semi-urban areas that are currently lacking and (ii) rehabilitating of existing water supply infrastructures in 30 other areas
SO2:Establish sanitation utilities in 280 localities and improving hygiene and sanitation practices of about 400 000 people in 700 communities
SO3: Strengthen the institutional framework for semi-urban hydraulics and perpetuate the semi-urban areas management system (public service delegation).
