Interview with the CEO of Groupe CONCEPT during his participation in the 21st International Congress of the African Water and Sanitation Association

22 February 2023 admin

In a statement to Mosaïque FM on the sidelines of the 21st Congress of theAFWA In a statement to Mosaïque FM on the sidelines of the 21st Congress of the CONCEPT of studies and engineering, Imed Eddine Nouri, said that many opportunities for projects and investments are available in the economic capital of Côte d'Ivoire, Abidjan, in several areas and without discontinuity. Reason for which he undertook to establish a subsidiary in this city as early as 2017. This company was created in only 6 hours: he indeed submitted his documents at 9:30 am and was called back at 3:30 pm the same day to inform him of the acceptance of his file and the immediate incorporation of the company.

Mr. Nouri told Mosaic that his group is active in nearly 30 African countries in the water, sanitation, solid waste management and renewable energy sectors. Noting that the rate of urbanization is reaching 4% per year in Africa -double the global rate-, he expects that more than half of Africa's population will be living in cities by 2050, which means that these cities will have an even greater need for drinking water systems, sanitation, solid waste management, roads, etc.

Our interlocutor added that Abidjan is a city of nearly 6 million inhabitants, very dynamic and rapidly expanding; it can be considered the "capital" of the WAEMU sub-region. The Ivorian authorities have been working over the past decade to develop its infrastructure and to fill any gaps in the connection to water, sewerage and other public services, as is the case for the rest of the country's cities. Mr. Nouri emphasizes that Tunisia has significant experience in these sectors, which allows it to serve as an example for other African countries, for example, the Office of Sanitation was established since 1974 and manages more than 120 treatment plants across the country, where more than 70% of the population is connected to the sewerage system.

The most sought after sectors in Abidjan

Our interlocutor confirmed that there is a strong demand for construction contractors to work in Abidjan, and that there is also a demand for design and engineering firms, knowing that several Tunisian firms in this sector are already established in Côte d'Ivoire, like others operating in many other areas such as insurance, manufactured food products or health, indicating that working in Abidjan obeys clear, safe and relatively easy procedures

Employment opportunities are available in Abidjan for those with advanced degrees and professional training

Imed Eddine Nouri finally stated that it is easy to obtain a residence to work in Abidjan with a reasonable capital requirement, but that there is a lack of information in Tunisia to draw the attention of graduates of higher education and those of vocational training about the existence of job opportunities available in Côte d'Ivoire. He called on the Minister of Employment to identify the needs of sub-Saharan African countries in terms of specialized manpower and to conclude agreements with them, rather than limiting this undertaking to individual efforts as is the case today.
