CONCEPT is fully committed to a large-scale sanitation project in Tunisia. Within the MERLIN / SCET / technical assistance group CONCEPTOur expertise is being mobilized to technical monitoring of the rehabilitation and extension project of the South Méliane II Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

This strategic project, led by ONAS, is part of the DEPOLMED program, which benefits from the financial support of prestigious international partners: AFD, EIB and European Union. The project aims for efficient management of wastewater discharges from the entire southern suburbs of the capital.

The main objective: to double the wastewater treatment capacity

The impact of this large-scale project is clear and measurable:

• Significant increase in the treatment capacity of the wastewater treatment plant: it will increase from 40,000 m³ per day to 90,000 m³ per day.
• Improving the quality of sanitation for a wider population.
• Enhanced protection of the environment and the Mediterranean coastline against pollution.

Progress in line with expectations

The project reached an overall completion rate of 50% by the end of October 2025, confirming the positive momentum of the work and the commitment of all stakeholders. This satisfactory progress reflects the importance placed by all operators on this infrastructure, which will greatly contribute to the ecological and health protection of South Tunis.
